Organ Groove Trio
Maplewood’s own Martin Leys brings the Organ Groove Trio to The Cassidy for the Jazz Brunch series Sunday, April 28, from noon to three. The Organ Groove Trio is Martin Leys on guitar, Gary Schaeffer on Hammond Organ and Abdullah Rahman on drums. The trio have played at many venues across New Jersey and further afield, and will be keeping it straight down the middle of the fairway, playing standards, bossa nova, latin and their own compositions, with more than a sprinkling of Wes Montgomery and Jimmy Smith thrown in. Martin hails originally from Inverness, Scotland but has called Maplewood home since 1991. In the UK he performed with Jazz Journal Musician of the Year Digby Fairweather and the gypsy guitar virtuoso Fapy Lafertin among others. He has also performed on live BBC radio and on top of an extinct Scottish volcano. Because you can’t be heard on top of a live volcano.
